This is a composite portrait of Aragorn which is "in progress". It's been in progress for quite a while... I had hoped to finish it before the release of Return of the King but it does not look like I will make it. |

Another work in progress titled "Cirion's Oath" based on a story in the Silmarillion. It's being rendered in colored pencil. The difficulty is that it takes so much effort to grasp the colored pencils while I work that my hand cramps up and causes what I am sure must be mild carpel-tunnel syndrome. So, I can only work on it sparingly. Plus, the paper I chose to work in on is a bit too textured for the kind of detail I was wanting. Next time I'll try it on smoother bristle board. |

This is my entry into the Fan Club Return of the King Decorated Tissue Box Contest Titled The Price of Victory it depicts happy Frodo on a flap over the top of the box and the ruined Frodo on the bottom. This was painted using Genesis Oil paint over liquid polymer clay. The box is completely covered with polymer clay, in suble tones of burgundy and gold. |

This is an example of the next step in my painting-on-polymer clay experiments. I layed down a thin layer of translucent liquid sculpey on a pane of glass, spreading it to approximately the inside dimentions of a precut mat... just slightly smaller so that the deckle-style edge would show. This was baked first. The surface is very uneven, resulting in a rippled effect... this could be used for special textural effects if planned well. In this case it was not quite what I wanted. I kept expecting the clay to even out if I let it sit long enough, but it didn't. The paint used is Genesis "oil" paint (actually polymer based) which is heat set. |

Here is one of the next tries in this medium. My "canvas" was made with a single thick layer of Kato Medium (a liquid polymer clay) on glass, baked then turned over to the smooth glassy side. I had tented the clay while baking in a convection oven to prevent the forced air from puddling the clay into a heap. The result was a more even sheet of clay, but it spread more than I expected making it necessary to trim the egdes with scissors. |

This sheet was created with a single thick layer of Kato Medium, but was not tented in the oven. the thickness of the sheet is uneven, I believe, because the forced air in the convection oven pushed the liquid clay into the center. I added a gray background to enhance the contrast. An interesting aspect of this medium is that when placed over a dark color mat board, it takes on the appearance of pastels on dark paper, kind of a cool effect! |
